Mike Sloan, Publisher

Mike Sloan has been an outspoken renewable energy champion for more than 20 years, working on solar, wind and biomass project development, education and energy policy. As a former Austin Energy employee turned consultant he helped guide Texas to become the number one wind power state in America and Austin to lead the U.S. in Green Pricing sales. He wrote the book on Texas’ renewable resources and campaigned incessantly for the Lone Star State’s first solar rebate program as a co-founder of Solar Austin.

Axel Gerdau, Editor

Axel Gerdau is responsible for developing content and communication strategies for PowerSmack. Before studying energy policy at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Axel spent a number of years working as a journalist for daily newspapers and magazines. He has interviewed the Dalai Lama and answered the question “What does it feel like to be a Woman?” for one million Men’s Health Readers. Now he is trying to help Austinites make informed decisions about their energy future.

Jon Lebkowsky, Outreach Coordinator

Jon Lebkowsky is a strategist focused on the Internet, the World Wide Web, and social uses of technology. He is also an author and social commentator who writes about culture, technology, media, sustainability and other topics for various publications. He has been blogging regularly since 2000, and is an acknowledged authority on the social web and online community. He is cofounder of Social Web Strategies, where he does strategic consulting and coordinates social media planning and web development.

Mike Aaron, Project Coordinator

Mike Aaron comes from a background in public affairs, including state government and non-profit experience. He began his career in the Texas House of Representatives, working for Dan Morales and Terral Smith. He followed Morales to the Office of Attorney General. After earning a Master’s degree in Public Policy, Mike joined the Texas Alternative Fuels Council. In the non-profit realm, he provided outreach support for the Sustainable Energy and Economic Development Coalition and supported the work of an emergency management task force for the Upper Mississippi River Basin Association in Minnesota.

Melissa Reese, Cartoonist

Melissa Reese, Animator

Melissa Reese creates the sometimes silly, often educational cartoons that color the PowerSmack  website. Melissa is a student at The University of Texas, graduating in May 2010 with degrees in film and journalism. She spent the past semester working at 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles. Melissa’s cartoons, which subject matter spans from personfied food to the ERCOT grid, have been viewed and enjoyed by many, inlcuding comedian Adam Sandler. He laughed and said they were funny. True story.

Daniel DeLoach, Director

Daniel DeLoach, Director

Daniel DeLoach was born on the army base at Fort Rucker, Alabama.  When he was six months old, his parents moved to Euless, Texas.  Eventually, he found them.  Daniel has been awarded the National PBS Communication Award, the Independent Film Channel’s “Pure Film” Grand Prize, three film festival grand prizes and has had four projects air on PBS.  Daniel spends most of his spare time looking for his keys.

Tony Capraro, Communications Specialist

Tony Capraro develops content and messaging strategies for PowerSmack. Since receiving a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Texas in 1999, Tony has  spent a number of years in marketing communications and product marketing at large and small commercial corporations as well as non-profits.  He has also taught marketing strategy.  Tony believes there is an urgent need to limit atmospheric carbon and wants to apply marketing to overcome the obstacles that are keeping us from moving faster.
